Al Hashmi Awards Dr. Al-Suwaidi an Honorable Shield from “The Chartered Institute for Information Technology – BCS”

H.E.  Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, Director General of the Emirates Center For Strategic Studies & Research, received an honor from “The Chartered Institute for Information Technology – BCS”. Eng. Adel Alkaff Al Hashmi, The Chairman of 2013 Conference and Chair of the Chartered Institute for IT BCS – (Middle East), delivered H.E. a memorial shield on Sunday 21st April, in recognition of his effective role in boosting research and knowledge in the information technology field. It is also to show appreciation for the Center’s valuable contribution sponsoring the Institute’s  1st International Conference in the Middle East, held in Abu Dhabi on 31st March and 1st of April 2013, under the sponsorship of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan; Minister of Culture, Youth & Community Development, and for  his continuous efforts of supporting and encouraging scientific research, creation and development of IT and Innovation.

H.E. Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, expressed his gratitude for the honor, stressing the importance of information technology as a vital sector and stated that efforts must be doubled not only to ensure ease of exploration but to reveal its hidden secrets, and allow man to benefit from it. H.E. emphasized that the Emirates Center For Strategic Studies & Research insists on exerting efforts, in its capacity as a prestigious research institute, to be involved in the field of information technology, and that anyone who wishes to advance in the Twenty-First Century must master the science.

The UK BCS IT Institute seeks to develop and strengthen the relationships between information technology experts around the world.  The Institute fosters links between experts from industry, academia and business to promote new thinking, education and knowledge sharing.

Eng. Adel Al Hashmi, Conference Chairman, mentioned that the international conference organized by the Institute in the Fairmont Bab El Bahr hotel in Abu Dhabi covered working papers and research which focuses on the latest innovations and developments in the field of information technology creations delivered by key international experts in this field from the  UAE and worldwide. In view of the distinguished success of the conference, it has been decided to hold and organize the 2nd BCS International IT Conference in Abu Dhabi in March, 2014 (www.bcsconf.com).

ICTRF2012 Call for Participation

The UAE Forum on Information and Communication Technology Research 2012 (ICTRF2012) is organized by Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR), and co-organized by ETISALAT-BT Innovation Centre (EBTIC) and the Emirates Advanced Network for Research and Education (ANKABUT). The main patrons of the event are the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), and the ICT Fund. ICTRF2012 is sponsored by Etisalat and the Institute of Applied Technology and technically sponsored by the IEEE and BCS. This year’s forum is a continuation of the “UAE Forum in Information and Communication Technology Research 2011” (ICTRF2011) which was held in Abu Dhabi, KUSTAR campus in May 2011. The forum attracted academics and industry professionals from the various ICT sectors.

The general theme of this year’s forum will be on “Establishing a Knowledge Based Economy through ICT Research and Innovation” which includes sessions on: Infrastructure for Enabling Knowledge Based Economy, Value Creation from Knowledge Based Economy, and Emerging Research in the Development of Knowledge Based Economy. The main topics in these sessions will be presented and discussed by prominent invited international speakers followed by panel discussion.

The forum will be open to academics, researchers, and industry professionals from the fast growing ICT sectors in the UAE and the region.

Registration: The deadline for registration is May 19th 2012, The registration form is available on the Forum website. Lunch and refreshments will be provided to all Forum participants.

National Digital Imaging Student Competition 2012

Khalifa University of Science, Technology, and Research is organizing the 2012 National Digital Imaging Student Competition (NDISC 2012 The aim of the competition is to provide students at UAE’s higher education institutions with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate their digital imaging and photography skills.

Conditions for Participation:
• The participant must be a full-time student currently enrolled at a UAE higher education institution.
• The digital image must be taken by the participant during the academic year 2011-2012 (i.e. starting 1st of September 2011).
• The image must be taken in the UAE using a digital camera and match the theme of the competition:
“Fountains in UAE”
• The image must have a resolution of at least 5 Mega pixels and must be in 24-bits JPEG colour format. The size of the JPEG file should be no more than 5 M Bytes.
• Each participant can submit only one image.
• Both processed and unprocessed images are acceptable.
• Each image must be accompanied with details of the date, place, type of digital camera and any
software used for processing.
• The submitted image should not have any text, signatures or watermarks.
• The image should not have been submitted or under consideration to/by another competition.
• The participant must have full copyright of the submitted image.
• Each submitted image may be used by the organizer and sponsors in any promotional material.
How to Participate:
• Images must be submitted electronically through the competition web site: www.kustar.ac.ae/ndisc2012
• No other form of submission will be accepted.
• Images must be submitted on or before Sunday 25th March 2012, 3:00 pm.
